Overview

Looking for a bearing that can handle heavy loads from different directions? Tapered roller bearings are the answer.

Here's how they work: The inner and outer rings are tapered (slanted), and the rollers are also tapered. All the tapered surfaces point to the same spot on the center line. This smart design lets the bearing take on both radial load (pushing from the side) and axial load (pushing along the shaft) at the same time.

What else makes them special? They are separable. That means you can install the inner part (with rollers and cage) and the outer ring separately. No hassle, easy mounting.

You can choose from three types based on how many rows of rollers you need: single row, double row, or four row.


Features
  • The bearing can be separated. The inner ring with roller and cage assembly can be installed separately from the outer ring.

  • Roller and raceway contact along a contact line, which helps reduce stress concentration.

  • Tapered roller bearings can withstand high radial and axial loads.

  • They can only take axial load in one direction. To handle axial load from the opposite direction, you need to install another tapered roller bearing arranged symmetrically.

  • These bearings mainly carry combined radial and axial loads. Load carrying capacity depends on the outer ring raceway angle. The greater the angle, the higher the capacity.

  • Most of the axial load capacity is determined by the contact angle α. As the angle α increases, the axial load capacity goes up. The angle size is shown by the calculation factor e. The larger e is, the greater the contact angle, and the better the bearing handles axial load.

  • For single row tapered roller bearings, the user must adjust the clearance during installation.

  • For double row and four row tapered roller bearings, the clearance is set at the factory according to user requirements. No adjustment is needed by the user.


Applications
  • Single row tapered roller bearings are used in the largest quantity.

  • In recent years, small sized double row tapered roller bearings have been used in car front wheels.

  • Four row tapered roller bearings are used in large scale cold rolling mills and other heavy machines.

  • Tapered roller bearings are widely used in automotive, rolling mills, mining, metallurgy, plastics machinery and many other industries.
