Taper roller bearings are designed with tapered inner and outer ring raceways, and tapered rollers are placed between these raceways. A key characteristic is that the projection lines of all tapered surfaces converge at a single common point on the bearing’s axis.
This special design enables taper roller bearings to efficiently bear combined loads—both radial and axial loads. The axial load carrying capacity is mainly determined by the contact angle α: the larger the contact angle α, the higher the axial load capacity.
The calculation factor e is an indicator of the contact angle size. A larger e value means a larger contact angle, which further enhances the bearing’s ability to carry axial loads.
In addition, taper roller bearings are generally separable. Specifically, the cone (composed of the inner ring, rollers and cage assembly) can be installed separately from the cup (outer ring), bringing convenience to installation and maintenance.
